Fifth Anniversary Of FDL Flood

It was five years ago today that already saturated ground and more than 3 inches of rain led to flooding in Fond du Lac. We talked to a lot of people that night who were impacted by the flooding. County Executive Al Buechel told us at the time that while he was at the City-County Building he saw quite a few people traveling about despite the conditions. Mark Lentz who was Fond du Lac’s Public Works Director back then said public works crews had their hands full. The High School, which had graduation ceremonies scheduled, became an evacuation center and when the Fond du Lac River overflowed its banks the County’s emergency operations center had to be abandoned. They re-established the center at the Fond du Lac Police Station. It would take months of recovery efforts.
