Fill The Boot Starts Next Week In FDL

KFIZ and 107.1 The Bull will have a role in the Fond du Lac Firefighters Local 400 Fill the Boot effort for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Monday a kick off press conference was held at Fire Station #1 on South Main Street. Murphy Maes of the MDA says four drugs have been approved in the last few months that help treat, but not cure MDA. She says they are expecting bigger things over the next five years. She says there will be more drug approvals and more cures than the last 50 years combined. Last year Fill the Boot, the Local 400’s booth at Walleye Weekend and the sale of shamrocks around St. Patrick’s Day added up to a contribution of $22,153 to the MDA. Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says their firefighters do the work during Fill the Boot, but it is the generosity of the community that makes the difference. The effort begins next Tuesday, August 1st from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Main and Division. On Friday, August 11th from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. it will move to the KFIZ and 107.1 The Bull studios with firefighters collecting for Fill the Boot in our parking lot and next to A & W. In addition A & W will be donating $2 for every root beer float sold that day. The final Fill the Boot effort is on Friday, August 18th at Division and Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (In the photo left to right Chief O’Leary and Firefighter/Paramedic Aird).

The Fond du Lac Fire Department’s contributions to MDA go back nearly 60 years. This citation signed by among others Jerry Lewis and Mrs. Lou Gehrig thanking the department for its contributions dates back to 1958.
