Final Deer Hunt Numbers Show Increases

In a year that has created one disappointment after another, one thing that didn’t disappoint was the nine-day gun deer season. The 169th season saw 569,203 gun licenses sold, which was up 3.5% from 2019. Female hunters made up 92,312 of the total hunters, which was up 12%, and marked the highest growth of any group. Once in the woods, hunters also saw a great deal of success, with 188,712 deer registered across the state, which was up 16% compared to 2019, but still off the mark of 2018.

Locally, Fond du Lac County registered 2,252 deer, up 8.5%. Green Lake County was up 22.6%, Dodge County saw an increase of 23.5%; Calumet County registered deer at a 22.3% clip compared to last year. Winnebago County saw one of the biggest year over year increases, posting an increase of 24%.
