Fire Contained to Rooftop Heating Unit at Merc Marine

Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue crews had to battle the harsh temperatures
and wind chill while working to put out a fire at Mercury Marine Wednesday
afternoon. Firefighters were called to Plant 15 around 3 pm for a report of a
fire on the roof. Workers in the immediate area were evacuated while fire crews
worked to access the area. The fire was contained to a rooftop HVAC unit and
was put out before it spread to the building. No injuries were reported. “With
subzero temperatures and wind chills hovering at -30 degrees, firefighters’
work becomes more difficult than normal,” Fond du Lac Fire Chief Peter O’Leary
said in a news release. “We were fortunate in this case that the fire was
quickly extinguished.” He added. Fond du Lac Police and Mercury Marine personnel
assisted firefighters at the scene.
