Fire Reported At Eden Meat Market In Eden

A quick response and training helped the Eden Fire Department contain a fire at the Eden Meat Market to one part of the business Thursday, November 3, 2022.

At 9:07 AM, the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a 911 call from an employee at Eden Meat Market & Catering, located at 115 W. Main St. in Eden, reporting a grease fire.

Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Eden Fire Department and other fire departments responded.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it spread further through the store or to adjacent buildings, however the meat market portion sustained significant fire, smoke and water damage.

An investigation revealed the fire started in a vent in the butcher shop and quickly spread to bacon grease that was present from morning meat processing.

Employees attempted to extinguish the fire, however they were unsuccessful and had to evacuate the building.

Three employees were treated and released from the scene for smoke inhalation.

Eden Meat Market & Catering was founded in the 1890’s and has expanded operations through the region over its 130 years of business.

Owners say the catering portion of the business will be able to continue while the meat processing portion is rebuilt.
