Fire Severly Damages A John Street Commercial Building

Fire destroyed  several cars and an automotive repair service at 68 John Street in Fond du Lac Saturday morning. Division Chief Troy Haase says it appears the fire began in a car outside the business and spread to the building. He says the fire worked its way up the outside of the building up into the rafters and overhang. The building is used for commercial space and houses several tenants. Heavy heat, fire and water damage rendered the building uninhabitable. Because of the proximity to the Fond du Lac River the DNR was alerted about runoff from the fire. No one was in the building at the time of the fire and no one was injured. Waupun, Ripon and other fire departments provided mutual aid. Haase says video surveillance should give them a better idea about how the fire started. The Red Cross provided firefighters with refreshments as they rehabilitated from fighting the blaze. Police rescued a dog at the scene and provided traffic control. The time of the fire call was 6:20 a.m.
