Five Turnovers Doom Badgers in Loss to Wildcats

#19 Northwestern 17, #10 Wisconsin 7

–The Wildcats’ defense forced five Wisconsin turnovers as they handed the Badgers their first loss of the season Saturday afternoon in Evanston. 

Northwestern intercepted Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz three times and forced two fumbles in their win, as they improved to 5-0 on the season. Peyton Ramsey threw for two touchdowns in the first half as the Wildcats led 14-7 at halftime. Northwestern added a 32-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to create the final margin. 

For Wisconsin, the loss comes despite outgaining Northwestern 366-263 and possessing the ball for 37 minutes of game action. Mertz connected with Chimere Dike for a 49-yard touchdown pass with just over five minutes remaining in the first quarter for the Badgers’ only score of the game. 

Wisconsin drops to 2-1 on the season with the loss, and will host Minnesota in the battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe next Saturday. Kickoff is at 1 PM from Camp Randall Stadium.

–Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields threw for two touchdowns and ran for another score as the Buckeyes held off the Hoosiers in Columbus. Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw for 491 yards and five touchdowns in the loss.

–The Hawkeyes snap a six-game losing streak to the Nittany Lions. With the loss, Penn State drops to 0-5 for the first time in school history.

Illinois 41, Nebraska 23

–The Illini totaled 490 yards of offense against the Huskers’ defense in the win.

–Cade McNamara threw for four touchdowns to help the Wolverines outlast the Scarlet Knights and snap a three-game losing streak.
