Flood Watch Continues Until Friday Morning

A Flood
Watch remains in effect for the listening area through Friday morning, and Fond
du Lac County Emergency Management officials want residents to keep the
potential for flooding in mind as they travel about over the next few days. The
flood watch was posted by the National Weather Service until 7 am Friday, and forecasters
say several rounds of rain along with mild temperatures will melt the snow pack
quickly. That rain and melting snow onto frozen ground will runoff into
ditches, streams and rivers this week. Residents are advised to watch for
flooding in low-lying rural areas, and in some urban areas that don’t usually
see flooding as storm drains are blocked by ice and snow. The City of Fond du
Lac Public Works Department is asking homeowners to clean out those catch
basins to ease flooding concerns around the city.

If you come
across a flooded road – remember the saying – “Turn Around, Don’t Drown”
Emergency Management officials say it only takes a few inches of water to sweep
a person off their feet, and as little as one foot of water to move a vehicle.
