Fond du Lac High School Students Participate in National Coming Out Day

Students at Fondy High participated in
“National Coming Out Day” on Friday, October 11. National Coming Out
Day was started 25 years ago by a group of people who believed in lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) equality and human rights. Every person who
“speaks up” and “comes out” as being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, or
“speaks up” and “comes out” as being a straight ally for LGBT people
changes more hearts and minds, and creates new advocates for equality. When
people know someone who is LGBT, they are far more likely to support equality.
One out of every two Americans is close to someone who is gay or lesbian and 1
out of every 10 Americans is close to someone who is transgender.

Fondy
High’s Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) students are leading the way with promoting
different days of awareness to increase student involvement and bring an end to
intolerance and bullying in our schools. No one deserves to be bullied and
everyone deserves to feel safe and respected. Bullying is wrong and the GSA’s
goal this year is to heighten that awareness and promote student involvement to
create safe schools.
