Fond du Lac Man Killed In Crash Identified

Update: The Fond du Lac man killed in this crash has been identified by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department as John R. Steffes, 75, of Fond du Lac. His passenger is Maryanne Steffes, 76, of Fond du Lac.

A two vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in the Town of Friendship claims the life of one person, and leaves another seriously injured.

At 4:14 pm, calls started coming into the Fond du Lac County Dispatch Center reporting the crash at the intersection of Van Dyne and Kinker Roads.

According to a press release from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department, witnesses to the crash stated that a southbound vehicle on Van Dyne Road struck an eastbound vehicle on Kinker Road that failed to yield the right of way to the southbound vehicle.

Emergency personnel from Van Dyne and Eldorado Fire Departments as well as North Fond du Lac Ambulance found the driver of the eastbound vehicle, a 75-year-old Fond du Lac man, was trapped in the vehicle and severly injured. He would pass away at the scene. His passenger, a 76-year-old female, also from Fond du Lac, would be transported to ThedaCare in Neenah by ThedaStar medical helicopter.

A 70-year-old passenger in the other car received minor injuries while the 19-year-old female driver and another 49-year-old female passenger were uninjured. All three are from North Fond du Lac.

The crash, which closed the intersection for about four hours, is being investigated by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department.
