Fond du Lac Public Library Now Accepting Applications For Spring Youth Design Workshops

Fond du Lac School District students in third, fourth, and fifth grade are encouraged to sign up for a fun, free series of workshops that will help them learn to problem-solve while discovering creative and innovative solutions.

The Design Lab at the Fond du Lac Public Library’s Idea Studio is now accepting applications for its spring session that includes 10 Saturday workshops from Feb. 11 through May 6, 2023. Sessions run from 8:45 to 11:45 a.m. at the library; a snack will be provided.

Students will learn the fundamental skills of design thinking, learn from community experts, then apply their new skills to come up with solutions to real-world problems.

“In addition to learning problem solving skills, we teach our students about emotional and social wellbeing and mindfulness,” said Chris Durkin, Design Lab program manager. “Students have reported being better at teamwork, solving problems, and being creative after spending time in our program.”

Design Lab is part of a nationwide collaboration, funded by a grant, and is closing the opportunity gap with arts-integrated, project based,  STEAM Programming for traditionally marginalized communities. Preference will be given to traditionally repressed/ignored students in the Fond du Lac School District who are in third, fourth, and fifth grade with a particular focus on students who identify as coming from low-income households.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis with final decisions for acceptance to the program being made in mid-January. Learn more about the program and apply online at fdlpl.org/designlab
