Fondy Babe Ruth Wins Pair At Regional

The Fond du Lac Babe Ruth baseball team won a pair of games at the Ohio Valley Regional on Friday.

 

Game 1 – Fond du Lac 19 – Central Indiana 0

Highlights:  Al Kaphengst 3 for 4, 2 runs scored and 5 RBI; Jacob Schneider 3 for 4, 3 RBIs; Trey Johnson 3 for 4, 2 RBIs

Following players had two hits: Maustin Otterstatter, Logan Mertens, Tyler Kryzanowski, Hunter Schmitz – 9 doubles altogether with 21 hits for the game.

 

Game 2 – Fond du Lac 8 – Northern Illinois 7 (Hammond Hurricanes)

Highlights:  Hunter Veness with the win after relieving the starter Logan Wendt in the second inning.  FDL was down 6-1 in the second and gutted out a “come from behind” victory behind solid hitting and an outstanding job from Veness on the mound.  (5 1/3 innings pitched, 2 hits, 1BB, HBP, 4 SO, 1 Earned Run)

 

Matt Schnell voted game MVP.  He went 3 for 4 with a two run homer and two runs scored and two RBIs, including a pick off at first base to shut down the beginning of a Central Indiana come back in the sixth.

 

Tyler Kryzanowski was 3 for 4 with a triple, Hunter Schmitz was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs, Al Kaphengst had two hits.   15 hits for the team to seal the win. 

Fond du Lac has won their pool and should be seeded as one of the top teams.  They will begin the single elimination run to the championship on Sunday.
