Fondy Baseball Returns to the State Tournament Today

For the first time in 19 years, the Fond du Lac Cardinals baseball team will compete in the State Tournament as they face Brookfield East in a WIAA Division One State Quarterfinal this afternoon. Fondy’s last appearance at state came in the year 2000 – when they won their first, and only state championship. The Cardinals won the Oshkosh North sectional last week – defeating West Bend West 4-3 and taking down Sheboygan North 7-3 in the Sectional Final. Brookfield East won their sectional with a pair of one-run victories, defeating Wauwatosa East 4-3 and knocking out the top-seed Menomonee Falls 3-2. The Spartans are making their first appearance at state in spring baseball, having made three trips to state while playing Summer Baseball – their last coming in 2011.

The game is the last of four quarterfinal matchups in Division One – and will begin 25 minutes after the conclusion of the 1 pm game between Eau Claire North and Sussex Hamilton. A win puts the Cardinals in the State Semifinals later tonight. Listen to coverage of today’s game(s) on KFIZ and KFIZ.com.
