Fondy Rallies Past SPASH

The Fond du Lac Cardinal football team stopped Stevens Point 23-13 at Fruth Field on Friday night.  Senior Kyle Pierce ran for touchdowns of 15 and 37 yards in the 4th quarter to rally from a 13-9 deficit.  The Cardinals led 2-0 after the first quarter.  SPASH picked off a Cardinal pass in the end zone, the defender ran it out of the end zone and then returned and downed the ball for the two-pointer.  Justin Maratik scored from 2 yards out early in the 2nd to make it 9-0.  SPASH scored a TD in the 2nd to make it 9-7 at the break and then took the 13-9 lead on an Ethan Clark TD with 2:40 left in the 3rd quarter.  The defense held and Pierce’s two TDs secured the win.  Pierce finished with 111 yards on the ground.   Sophomore QB Quinn Woelfel ran 18 times for 107 yards as Fondy.  Fondy rushed for nearly 300 yards as a team.  The Cardinals (1-3, 1-1) travel to Neenah next Friday night.  You’ll hear it on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ and streaming at kfiz.com
