Fondy, WLA, St. Mary’s Springs Win Playoff Openers!

The Fond du Lac Cardinal football team rolled over
Janesville Craig 46-7 in their WIAA Division One playoff opener on Friday night
at Fruth Field.  Fondy covered up a Craig
fumble on the first play of the game and it took just two plays for the Cardinals
to get on the board as Jack Nejedlo hit Brian Luteyn on a 26 yard TD pass.  That TD came at the 11:11 mark of the first
quarter.  With 7:10 left in the 1st,
Nejedlo hit Luteyn on a 28 yards strike to make it 14-0.  A tough 7 yard run by Justin Maratik put
Fondy up 20-0 with 10:54 left in the 1st half.   Mark Dilling caught a 9 yard TD pass and
Justin Maratik ran one in from 10-yards out as the Cardinals built a 32-7 lead
heading to the 4th quarter. 
Fondy added a Quinn Woelfel 4 yard run and 25 yard TD reception by Caleb
Goldstein to round out the scoring. 
Maratik finished with 201 yards and 37 carries and 2 TDs.   The Cardinals (9-1) will travel to Big 8
conference champion Middleton (9-1) for a 2nd round matchup next

5th seeded Winnebago Lutheran went on the road
and picked up a 42-26 win at 4th seeded Brookfield Academy
on Friday night in the WIAA Division Five playoffs.  Sophomore quarterback Eric Schmitz ran for a
two touchdowns a connected with Mitch McFarlane for a pair of touchdown passes
in the win.  WLA (7-3) will travel to #1
seed Racine St. Catherine’s (9-1) next Friday night.

#1 seed St. Mary’s Springs took care of #8 seed Manitowoc
Lutheran in their Division Six playoff opener on Friday night in North Fond du Lac
Sam Spranger ran for a pair of touchdowns, while Blake Bauer threw TD
passes to Luke Gellings and Zach Hintze. Anthony Grebe also returned an
interception 99 yards for a TD in the win. 
The Ledgers (10-0) will host Algoma (8-1) next Friday night at Fruth. You’ll
hear that game on K107.1 presented by BCI Burke Company.
