For Sabish Middle School Elves Giving Is Not The Only Reward

Christmas came a bit early for the Sabish Middle School Elves. The 142 7th graders made the holidays brighter for more than 200 kindergartners in the Fond du Lac School District by finding out what they wanted for Christmas and doing their best to make it happen. That giving effort was among the top giving efforts across the country voted on in an online contest. Seventh Grade Teacher Gina Rieder says they found out on December 20th, the same day they distributed gifts, that their effort won them $10,000 which is enough to fund the program for a year. They hope to hold that in reserve in case they fall short of what they need for the program during a Christmas season. The 7th graders wrote about the experience and like Rieder couldn’t believe they won. Their entry for the voting was put together the night before the contest began. She is grateful for the community’s support. She says she and the kids realize that winning one of the $10,000 prizes may be a once in a lifetime experience, but for a very good cause.
