Former UWO Officials Plead ‘Not Guilty’ in Foundation Case

A former chancellor and former vice chancellor at UW-Oshkosh say they are “not guilty” on charges related to the mishandling of the private UW-Oshkosh Foundation. Richard Wells and Thomas Sonnleitner appeared in court on Monday. They are both charged with five felony counts of Misconduct in Office following accusations of improperly funneling $11 million of university money into different real estate projects funded by the foundation. Signature bond was set at $10,000 each. They were both released and ordered to return to court on December 10th. According to court records, Wells was bound over for trial. The foundation filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as they work to reorganize their funds.
