Fox Valley Locations Considered for New Juvenile Prison

A new juvenile prison to replace the troubled Lincoln Hills facility could be built in the Fox Valley. The Juvenile Corrections Study Committee was formed after a new law was approved to open new facilities by the start of 2021.
The panel ranked two sets of sites – some in southeastern Wisconsin, and others across the rest of the state. For locations outside of the Milwaukee metro area, the top-ranked site is near Highway 15 and Highway 45 in Outagamie County, near New London. Another location is near the Highway 10 and Highway 45 interchange in the Winnebago County town of Winchester, just a few miles outside of Oshkosh.
The recommendations are being sent to the Department of Corrections for review, but no final decisions on sites have been made. The state has already committed up to $80-million for those facilities.
