Friends Of Lakeside Park Face Uphill Battle

Could it be the end of the road for the group trying to stop the privatization of Lakeside Park? On the surface, it appears to be. City Council is set to meet this week, and again take up the matter of the Lakeside Park Alternate Master Plan. Included in the discussions will be the matter of the two petitions filed by the Friends of Lakeside Park and the over 3,000 signatures submitted opposed to parts of the plan. According to initial agenda notes presented by Fond du Lac City Attorney Deb Hoffmann, the petitions presented “are not proper subjects of direct legislation” under Wisconsin statues, and are “administrative, not legislative, in character.” The group opposed to some of the pieces of the Alternative Master Plan puzzle at Lakeside Park does have one more option that they can take up with District Court, if they feel the ruling by Hoffman is incorrect. Council is set to meet this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
