Frozen Chosen World Premiere

There was laughter and a few eyes misted up during the world premiere of the documentary “The Frozen Chosen” Thursday night at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts in Fond du Lac. The film directed and produced by Steve Boettcher (pictured) captured the thrill and dedication of the Schumacher and Muche families during the sturgeon spearing season on Lake Winnebago. Towards the end of the film Stuart Muche is seen comparing closing up the hole in his fishing shanty to “closing a casket.” He says he feels depressed for a few days after the end of each season. Boettcher is a five-time Emmy winner and says he began keeping files on sturgeon spearing 25 years ago. He was happy to premiere the film in Fond du Lac in the midst of “The Frozen Chosen” who are preparing for another season. The film will air on Milwaukee’s PBS Station Monday night at 9 p.m.
