Funding Included In State Budget For Hwy 23 Project

Money is included in the state budget for the Highway 23 expansion project between Fond du Lac and Plymouth. The nearly $20 million will help get the project back on track after a long legal battle that stalled federal funding. The funding is coming from money the state saved on bidding for other highway projects. State Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt says work on the highway will likely start next spring or summer. He notes it is too late in the season for the state to start on a new project this year. Meanwhile the state is tailoring its planning for the highway to suit a federal judge’s decision so federal funding for the project can be accessed. Thiesfeldt says the remainder of the state funding will have to be included in Wisconsin’s next two-year state budget. (Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue photo)
