Giving In The Wake Of Tragedy

Those giving donations to help out the shooting victims in Las Vegas should carefully consider the charity they are donating to. Susan Bach of the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau says a lot of celebrities get involved in this type of fundraising. They will use crowd funding to accomplish that. Bach recommends skipping the middle man and giving directly to the charity. The crowd funding organization will take a portion of those donations so your money is better off going right to the charity. Bach also recommends using the Wisconsin Giving Alliance to check out whether a charity is legitimate. The website is give.org. You can put in the name of the charity at the top of the website. You can then find out if the charity meets 20 standards of accountability. Bach says people are anxious to try and help, but it is also the time when scammers are trying to take advantage of people’s generosity.
