GOP Leader Claims “Unanimous” Support for Protecting Pre-Existing Conditions

A Republican state Senate leader says there is “unanimous”
support among GOP senators to guarantee people with pre-existing health
conditions have access to health insurance.

 Senator Alberta Darling voiced her
confidence this week after Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said last week that
he wasn’t sure there would be enough votes supporting protection for
pre-existing conditions. Federal law currently guarantees coverage for people
with pre-existing conditions, but Governor Scott Walker wants to repeal that –
and pass a state protection instead.

Some Republicans reportedly didn’t want to
vote on a state protection because it’s already in federal law, but Darling
says they all want to support people who need it.
