Governor Signs Fallen Serviceman Tax Break Bill In Mayville

Governor Scott Walker says the bi-partisan-supported legislation he signed Thursday at Mayville’s Veterans Memorial was not a red bill or a blue bill… it was a red, white and blue bill.  The new law will waive state income taxes for the year in which a soldier or Marine dies, plus the year before. It was inspired by family of Army Lt. David Johnson, who was killed last year fighting in Afghanistan. His parents noticed that the federal taxes on his returns were forgiven but the state taxes were not. Walker says that was exactly the right way for a bill to become a law: through concerned citizens with the best of intentions all too often finding something that was not done correctly then reaching out to their elected officials.
