Grandparents Scam Nearly Works On FDL Couple

An elderly Fond du Lac couple nearly fell for the Grandparent’s scam recently. Police Officer Erik Foster says a woman got a call from someone posing as her grandson. He says she helped him out by volunteering her grandchild’s name. The caller then said he had been involved in a drunken driving accident in the Chicago area and needed money to post bail. He asked her not to let his parents know about it Foster says the woman’s husband brought a little more common sense to the conversation, but they still almost fell for it. He says in another variation of the scam callers will pose as law enforcement asking you to wire money to a scammer so they can catch them in the act.
