Grass Fires A Concern

Firefighters in Fond du Lac County were fighting eight different grass fires at the same time Saturday. One of the bigger fires was in the area of I-41 and Hickory in Fond du Lac. Assistant Fire Chief Todd Janquart says they believe hot embers from a passing train started the blaze and other grass fires. He says windy conditions helped moved the flames. He says additional fires occurred in the County along the railroad line further to the south. Janquart asks people to be careful with their cigarette butts as well. He says although the ground may be wet at times the brush growing above it dries out quickly. He estimates about 7 acres of brush burned in the fire they battled.
