Grothman Praises ‘Right to Try’ Passage

Congressman Glenn Grothman is praising the passage of a recent bill introduced by Senator Ron Johnson. The “Right to Try” bill allows patients with terminal illnesses to test drugs that have yet to be approved by the FDA.

Grothman says the bill helps bypass the restrictions of red-tape. He tell us “it’s a little embarrassing in this country that there are drugs and other treatments used in other countries that are illegal in the US because the FDA hasn’t signed off. But quite frankly the FDA takes too long to approve these drugs. And particularly if you have a fatal disease, what’s the downside of trying?”

The bill cruised through Congress with bi-partisan support. The medications must pass an FDA safety protocol, but if a patient has exhausted all other options, final approval on the drugs will not be required.
