Harvest Caps Increase For Sturgeon Spearing Season

Department of Natural Resources Sturgeon Biologist Ryan Koenigs says harvest caps have been increased for the 2015 Sturgeon spearing season. He says the caps have increased because of the healthy sturgeon population numbers. He says overall the harvest cap has been increased by 130 fish. He says the cap for juvenile females was increased by 30 to 430, 50 for adult female up to 878, and 50 for males up to 1,250. He says the adult female harvest usually triggers closure of the season and that increase of 50 is an increase of 6 percent in the cap. He’s expecting a very good season with a harvest of nearly 2,000 fish. The sturgeon spearing season on Lake Winnebago and the Upriver Lakes starts on Saturday, February 14th.
