Hate Crime Trial Date Set

A trial has been set in the Fond du Lac County case involving Daniel D. Navarro.

District Attorney Eric Toney announced Monday the jury trial is set to get underway August 2, 2022.

The 7-day trial will be held in front of Judge Andrew Christenson.

Navarro was found competent to stand trial back on October 6, 2021, and entered a plea of Not Guilt by Reason of Insanity on October 21, 2021.

Navarro is charged with First Degree Intentional Homicide with a Hate Crime Enhancer, for his alleged actions in the fatal July 3, 2020 crash that took the life of then 53-year old Phillip A. Thiessen, who was operating a motorcycle at the time.

Deputies on the scene were told by Navarro that he believed all Harley motorcycle riders were “white racists” and that he had been poisoned by co-workers and neighbors.

Navarro is accused of intentionally driving his truck into Thiessen.
