Health Officials Encourage Flu Shot Ahead of Family Gatherings

Health officials are encouraging Wisconsin
residents to include flu shots in their planning ahead of the holiday
get-togethers with family. State health officials say the purpose is especially
to protect elderly relatives and new babies – who are more susceptible to
getting the flu.

Some 7,530 Wisconsinites were hospitalized with flu-related
issues last year – and 379 people died, including three children. The flu shot
is safe and effective for people that are 6 months and older.

Other helpful
steps include thoroughly washing your hands, covering coughs and sneezes, not
sharing drinks or food, and avoiding people who are sick.
