Highway 23 Closed For Crash

State Highway 23 was closed for a little over an hour in a part of Fond du Lac County Thursday afternoon while emergency responders worked the scene of a 2 vehicle crash.

At 2:47 PM, the Fond du Lac County 911 Dispatch Center paged out Eldorado Fire Department and North Fond du Lac Ambulance for a two vehicle crash on Highway 23 just west of County Highway C.

The driver of a dump truck told a 911 operator that a car had crossed the centerline and crashed into the front of his truck.

While officers with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department and first responders were on their way to the scene, witnesses at the scene stated the man in the car was cutting himself with a knife so first responders were told to hold back until officers could secure the scene.

While still on the phone with witnesses, they advised dispatch that the man had collapsed.

Officers arrived to find the man with “major lacerations to both wrists.”

ThedaStar medical helicopter had been called to the scene and transported the 35-year-old Minnesota man to ThedaClark Medical Complex in Neenah.

Eastbound traffic was opened back up at 4:00 PM and westbound opened a short time later.

The crash is under investigation by the Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Department.
