Holy Family Opens Day Shelter In FDL

It’s not officially winter in Wisconsin until Monday, December 21. And as far as pre-winter weather goes, 2020 has been fairly mild, unless you find yourself without a roof over your head during the day. Holy Family Catholic Community has opened the St. Mary’s Outreach Center at St. Mary Church, 59 E. Merrill Ave., offering day shelter to clients of The Salvation Army of Fond du Lac County Warming Shelter.

According to Holy Family Catholic Community Director of Human Concerns, Erin Cobb, the colder weather and continuing concerns of COVID have increased the demand to find safe places for people to go, to get away from the cold. The St. Mary’s Outreach Center will be open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday for clients of The Salvation Army’s Warming Shelter, which provides a place to stay for up to 40 people each night in winter. On Mondays and Wednesdays, the church will continue to offer Mass at 12:10 pm and visitors to the center are welcome to attend if they so choose.
