Homers Doom Dock Spiders in Loss

FOND DU LAC, WI – Four Wausau Woodchucks home runs, including three in the fifth inning, gave the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders a road loss on Sunday, 7-3 at Athletic Park.

The loss was the third straight for the Dock Spiders, as they fell to 8-5 on the season. The win was the second in the last three for Wausau, who improved to 5-8.

The Dock Spiders scored first for the seventh time this year after Evan Stone (South Carolina) singled home Nick Mitchell (Western Illinois) in the first inning to give Fond du Lac a 1-0 lead. Wausau would then respond in the bottom half of the inning after a one-out triple and a sac fly tied the game at one.

In the third inning, the Dock Spiders would use a sacrifice fly to right from Stone, giving him his second multi-RBI game of the year, to take a 2-1 lead. They would jump ahead by two after a leadoff home run from Anthony Frechette (George Washington) in the fourth.

The Woodchucks then came all the way back in the fourth, tallying three home runs in five batters to tally five runs with two out to take a 6-3 lead. They’d tally another in the eighth off their fourth home run of the day.

Grant Hussey (West Virginia) tallied his second multi-hit game of the year in the loss, with a single in the first and eighth inning.

The Dock Spiders now return home for three straight games against the Woodchucks and the Great Lakes West leaders, Wisconsin Rapids. Sean Duffy (High Point) is scheduled to start tomorrow night for the Dock Spiders against Dante Chirico (Northwest Florida State) for the Woodchucks. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Herr-Baker field.
