Horicon Man Makes Initial Court Appearance For Fatal Crash

A 31-year-old Horicon man made his initial appearance in a Washington County court Thursday for a fatal crash he is charged with causing.

Steve Bruskiewicz Jr. is charged with three counts of homicide by negligent use of a motor vehicle, and one count of reckless driving causing great bodily harm.

The crash occurred June 28, 2022 on State Highway 164 in the village of Richfield.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Bruskiewicz was reportedly using a social media app on his cell phone when he crashed into the back of a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Casey Schwartz of Mayville, pushing her into the oncoming lane where she was struck again by a vehicle driven by a 67-year-old Waukesha man.

Schwartz, who was pregnant at the time of the crash and her 1-year-old son were killed in the crash, and the Waukesha County man was seriously injured.

If found guilty, Bruskiwicz could face up to five years in prison and five years of extended supervision.

His next hearing is set for September 7.
