Hospitalizations Creep Up In County, While Daily Cases Top 1,000 in State

COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to creep up in Fond du Lac County, with Fond du Lac County Health reporting 6 people receiving care due to complications as a result of the coronavirus. That’s up from zero as recently as last week. Active cases dropped slightly, down 3 to 78 while confirmed cases climbed 9 on Thursday, taking the county to12,078 total confirmed cases. Over 600 negative tests were also reported on Thursday pushing the county total over 128,000.

For the first time since mid-February, Wisconsin reported over 1,000 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state. 1,046 tests were listed as positive on Thursday. Even as more and more Wisconsinites are getting the COVID-19 vaccine, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ryan Westergaard warns new virus variants are driving an increase in cases

“We are not going to get to 100 percent vaccine coverage probably this year. And there’s a danger of the pandemic getting out of control and having unnecessary illnesses and deaths.”

Westergaard said all five variants identified by the CDC are now present in the state. The Department of Health Services said the 7-day average is now at 733 cases per day.
