Hundreds Of Animals Removed From Hoarding Conditions

A tip from the animal rights group PETA led Manitowoc County authorities to an animal hoarding
situation just outside the village of Kiel Tuesday morning.

While executing a search warrant with the help of the Lakeshore Humane Society, close to 500 animals were found to be living in several
dirty and feces filled outbuildings on the property.

275 rabbits and 198 chickens, ducks, quail and roosters were found on the property.

Executive director of the Lakeshore Humane Society Tina Nichols said “The conditions of the cages were so poor that they were caving onto
the animals below them and some of the cages were completely filled with feces.”

The humane society, with the help of area volunteers are doing all they can to provide care for the animals but with this many animals, they say more help is needed in the form of donations and extra volunteers. “We need a team of volunteers that will be willing
to come here every day and help us. And we need people to rehome these rabbits,” Nichols said.

Photos and videos of the animals can be seen on the humane society’s Facebook page. Those willing to help can also get information there.
