Hundreds Of Dead Fish Found In Waupun

Hundreds of dead fish turned up near the dam in the Waupun Mill Pond last weekend. Waupun Deputy Police Chief Jeremy Rasch says the strong odor was very noticeable in that area Monday morning. Citizens started complaining about the odor and the large amount of fish along the Rock River banks. The cause is most likely due to the heavy rain last Thursday. Run off entering the Rock River can affect oxygen levels in the water. The DNR did send a Fisheries Biologist to investigate. By Monday all the oxygen levels were back to normal. One resident noted the water had a green color to it Thursday night. That color lasted about four hours. The City’s DPW crews had the unenviable task of cleaning up the dead fish. The Rock River runs into the Horicon Marsh, but the marsh was unaffected.
