Hurricane Insurance Scams

An administrator with the state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says scammers are calling homeowners about their insurance coverage given the flooding caused by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. The Federal Emergency Management Agency or FEMA has gotten reports that homeowners and renters who are getting robocalls saying they have to pay their flood premiums immediately or they will get no coverage for hurricane damage.  Frassetto points out it that it is no different than what happens in Wisconsin following a natural disaster with homeowners more sensitive because of news coverage about a disaster. FEMA has a toll free hotline for those who wish to report the phony robocalls. He says anyone who has concerns about their insurance policies can always contact their insurance company directly.
