Hwy. 175 Accident Sends Two To Hospital

Two people were injured, one seriously, as a result of a two-vehicle accident Wednesday (1/12/2022) morning.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department was notified just before 6:50 a.m. of a two-vehicle accident that occurred on Hwy. 175, north of CTH Y in the Town of Byron.

Deputies with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office along with Brownsville Fire Department and First Responders, City of Fond du Lac Paramedics and Ambulance, Wisconsin State Patrol and Life Net Medical Helicopter responded to the scene. STH 175 was closed between CTH Y and CTH F for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

Investigation showed that a southbound sport utility vehicle (SUV) was passing vehicles unsafely. The southbound SUV was passing another southbound vehicle, when it began to lose control, crossing the centerline striking a northbound pickup truck in the northbound lane of STH 175.

The SUV was operated by a 27-year-old male from Fond du Lac who was flown from the scene by Life Net medical helicopter to Froedtert Medical Hospital-Milwaukee for treatment of serious injuries.

The pickup truck that was struck by the SUV was operated by a 43-year-old male from Theresa who was transported to St. Agnes Hospital (SSM Health) in Fond du Lac by City of Fond du Lac Paramedics for treatment of minor injuries.

The operator of the SUV (striking vehicle) will be cited for passing in no passing zone, failure to maintain control of vehicle and failure to fasten seatbelt-operator.
