Ice Rescue Made Thursday On Lake Winnebago

Recent rain and warm temperatures have made for questionable ice conditions on Lake Winnebago, as one crowd found out Thursday afternoon.

The City of Fond du Lac Fire Rescue Department and the FDL County Sheriff’s Department were called out Thursday evening just before 7:00 p.m. for an initial report of a truck that had gone through the ice.

KFIZ Breaking News Editor, Doug Raflik, was on the scene and captured video of the rescue, which you can find on the KFIZ Facebook page.

The incident occurred about 100 yards north of the Yacht Club and actually involved a four-wheeled UTV carrying 4 people and a dog that broke through the ice and had managed to get stuck.

Everyone was able to get out safely and walk to shore with assistance from firefighters.

But it’s once again a great reminder that, this late in the season especially, the ice is never 100% safe.
