Illinois Man Makes Initial Appearance In FDL Infant Death Case

Bond was set at $1 million cash for the 29-year-old Bellwood, Illinois man suspected of killing his girlfriend’s 14-month-old baby boy while the couple was visiting a friend in Fond du Lac. Daniel Antwon Griffin made his initial appearance in Fond du Lac County Court Friday morning. He’s facing 1st degree reckless homicide and child abuse causing great bodily harm charges for the July 7th incident at the Maplewood Commons Apartments, which led to the baby’s death and serious injuries to his twin brother. Griffin allegedly stood on the baby’s chest and caused other injuries to the infant’s twin brother.  The baby’s 24-year-old mother, Airrealle Smart is also facing charges. Griffin was arrested in Dallas, Texas after a nationwide warrant was issued.
