Inmate Involved In Stabbing Pleads Not Guilty

An inmate involved in a Christmas Eve stabbing incident back in 2019 at Waupun Correctional was back in court Thursday. 41-year old Gregg Philips had originally pled not guilty to charges of stabbing a prison guard in the back. That guard was taken to the hospital and treated for 13 stab wounds. Philips was in Dodge County Circuit Court and changed his plea on Thursday to not guilty by reason of mental defect to the felony charge of Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide along with two other charges. Philips has been held at Green Bay Correctional and could face an additional 75 years in prison. He was serving time already for a 2005 conviction of killing his girlfriend and a bystander at a hotel outside of Milwaukee.
