Interim Chief Makes Promotions Official

Interim Chief of Police Aaron Goldstein has announced several promotions in the City of Fond du Lac Police Department.

Administrative Lieutenant Anthony Hahn has been promoted to Captain and both School Resource Officer Michael Gales and School Resource Officer Steve Olson have been promoted to Lieutenant.

Captain Anthony Hahn has been a member of the City of Fond du Lac Police Department since December 3, 2001. Over the course of his nineteen year career with the Department, in addition to his roles as a Police Officer and Lieutenant in both operational and administrative roles, he has served the Department as a Field Training Officer, Field Training Supervisor, Evidence Technician, Radar/Laser Instructor, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Instructor, Coordinator of the Domestic Violence Intervention Team (DVIT), member of the county-wide/ multi-jurisdictional Child Abduction Response Team (CART), and as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

Captain Hahn graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Sheboygan with an Associate of Arts and Science Degree in 1999. In 2000, Captain Hahn graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology and then in 2007 with a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice.

Captain Hahn is a graduate of the Wisconsin Command College ‘Certified Public Manager’ course, ‘Leadership in Police Organizations’ (LPO) course; the International Association of Chiefs of Police flagship leadership development training program, and the University of Wisconsin – Platteville ‘First Line Supervisory’ course. Captain Hahn also successfully completed the ‘Deliberate Leadership with a Moral Compass’ course, Dale Carnegie ‘Skills for Success’ course, and the ‘Leadership and Mastering Performance Management’ course. Captain Hahn is currently a board member of the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (WLEEDA). Captain Anthony Hahn will be assigned to the Patrol Division as a District Commander of one of the three Policing Districts.

Lieutenant Michael Gales has been a member of the City of Fond du Lac Police Department since March 28, 2014. In 2018, he was assigned as a School Resource Officer serving at the Fond du Lac High School until his promotion to Lieutenant. As a School Resource Officer he was part of the Fond du Lac School District’s Crisis Team, Suicide Prevention Team, and Threat Assessment Team. Over the course of his seven year career with the Department, in addition to his roles as a Police Officer and School Resource Officer, he served as a member of the SWAT Crisis Negotiations Team, a Lead Advisor for the Police Explorers Unit, and is one of the Department’s Tactical DRONE/ Robot Operators.

Lieutenant Gales graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He also is a graduate of the ‘Leadership with a Moral Compass’ course, Integrated Comprehensive Systems for Equity Community Ally Academy, Fair and Impartial Policing course, Wisconsin Department of Justice Threat Assessment Team Course, and the Crisis Intervention Team course.
Lieutenant Gales is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Fond du Lac Police Benevolent Association. Lieutenant Gales will be assigned to the Patrol Division as an Assistant District Commander of one of the three Policing Districts.

Lieutenant Steven Olson is a Fond du Lac native and has been a member of the City of Fond du Lac Police Department since February 15, 1999. In 2016, he was assigned as a School Resource Officer for the second time in his career most recently serving at the Theisen Middle School and several elementary schools until his promotion to Lieutenant. Over the course of his twenty-two year career with the Department, in addition to his role as a Police Officer, he served as a DARE Officer, Crime Prevention Specialist, Housing Authority Investigator, SWAT Team Sniper, a Field Training Officer, and member of the Honor Guard.

Lieutenant Olson has held a number of lead roles and responsibilities including, assisting home and business owners with crime prevention assessments and recommendations, an active member of the Drug Free Communities and Fond du Lac Opioid Coalitions, and the Department’s Citizen Police Academy coordinator. He also has instructed numerous classes where he has helped train many community members in ‘CRASE’ (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events).

Lieutenant Olson graduated from Fox Valley Technical College with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. Lieutenant Olson is a graduate of the ‘Leadership in Police Organizations’ (LPO) course; the International Association of Chiefs of Police flagship leadership development training program. He has also successfully completed the Beyond Diversity training courses, Fair and Impartial Policing course, Question Persuade Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention Instructor course, and School Resource Officer Certification course.

Lieutenant Olson is a past President of the Wisconsin DARE Officers Association. Lieutenant Olson will be assigned to the Patrol Division as an Assistant District Commander of one of the three Policing Districts.
