Investigators Point to Speed, Slick Roads in Fatal Early Morning Crash

An Omro man is dead after losing control of his car and
hitting a semi along Interstate 41 on Thursday morning.

Around 3:35am, rescue
crews were called to the crash on the northbound lanes of the bridge over Lake Butte
des Morts between Highway 45 and Highway 21.
The 36-year old man was driving in the far left lane when it
appears he lost control, spun out and struck the median barrier before crossing
all three lanes of traffic and hitting the semi.

The 48-year old Iron Mountain
man driving the semi was not hurt. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office
believes speed and slick road conditions are factors in the crash.

That area of
the road was closed for over two hours for investigation and cleanup. The man’s
name has not been released.
