Jim Megellas 2014 Audie Murphy Award Winner

Fond du Lac native and World War II hero James “Maggie” Megellas was honored during an event in Washington D.C. this past weekend. During the American Veterans Center Honors he received the 2014 Audie Murphy Award. It’s the Center’s oldest and signature award. It honors those who have exhibited extraordinary service during and after the war. Previous honorees have included Senator Bob Dole, the legendary Doolittle Raiders & Tuskege Airmen, Major League baseball players who fought in WW II including Bob Feller, Yogi Berra, Ralph Kiner and Jerry Coleman. Audie Murphy was the most decorated American soldier in WW II. Megellas was the most decorated officer in the 82nd Airborne.  The ceremony was held last Saturday, but will air on the Reelz Channel and DoD News this coming weekend. On the Reelz Channel it will be on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 11 p.m. Showings on DoD News formerly the Pentagon Channel will be Friday at 12, 4, 7 and 10 p.m., Saturday at 4 a.m. and 3 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
