Judge Nuss Will Hang Up The Robe

Two Circuit Judges have now announced their retirement wishes in the past two weeks. Judge Richard J. Nuss made his announcement public Tuesday in a press release. In the release, Nuss said,

“As you may be aware my current judicial term ends July 31, 2021 and I will not be seeking re-election.  My Notification of Noncandidacy was filed with the Wisconsin Election Commission on January 31, 2020.  The General Spring Election for Fond du Lac County Circuit Court, Branch 3, is scheduled for April 6, 2021.

It has been my distinct privilege, pleasure and honor to have been a member of such a distinguished judiciary and to have presided over Fond du Lac County Circuit Court, Branch 3, for almost 20 years.  Considering my 7 ½ years as Family Court Commissioner, 22 years in my private law practice and 3 years of military service as an officer in the United States Marine Corps I will have been working for over 52 years — and enjoying each and every day.  I have been so blessed.  However, the time has finally come to hang up my robe and pass the gavel.

I could never properly acknowledge my sincere appreciation and thanks to my staff, co-workers, attorneys, and colleagues.  This has been a very humbling, extremely gratifying and most rewarding experience – one that I never took for granted and have cherished every day.  While my retirement will be most welcomed it is certain to be very bittersweet.”
