Karl Hess charged in Miller family murders

A Manitowoc man faces two life sentences after being formally charged today with two counts of first-degree murder.  Karl Hess is being held on a one-million-dollar bond for the robbery and deadly shooting of Richard Miller and his daughter Jocelyn last fall.  Hess allegedly told police he was having financial problems and knew Miller had money and said he planned to kill Richard and take a large amount of cash he knew Richard kept at home. Hess then said, on the night of September 7, 2018, he went to the Miller residence, with a 9mm handgun, and then waited until the rest of the guests had left the home, put on gloves, and shot Richard Miller twice in the head. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in the Manitowoc County Jail.
