Kaufman Sworn In As New FDL County Executive

Sam Kaufman was sworn in as the new Fond du Lac County Executive, becoming just the third person to hold the position.

He takes over the position after the unexpected passing of Allen J. Buechel, who passed away in March following a heart attack.

Kaufman won the Special Election Tuesday in a landslide, rolling up 5,447 votes out of the over 6,500 votes cast.

Tiffany Brault and Richard Gedemer finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, with both launching write-in campaigns late in the race. Brault pulled in almost 1,000 votes, while Gedemer finished with less than 70.

Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg administered the oath of office to Kaufman, who was the former county board chair, and who will now remain in the position until April of 2025.

The current County Board will look to select a new chairman at their upcoming meet set for later this month.

The position of County Executive was first held by Anita Anderegg, who held the position from 1981-1993, with Allen J. Buechel then holding the position until his death.
