Kayaker Rescued from Lake Winnebago

A 40-year-old Fond du Lac man was rescued from Lake
Winnebago after his kayak overturned and he became submerged in the water Tuesday
afternoon. Just before 3 pm, The County Communications Center received a call
from a person on shore about a kayaker in distress on the water. Fond du Lac
County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Lakeshore Drive and Cottage
Lane in the Town of Friendship where they were able to see the man about one
mile off shore. The kayaker was unable to make it back due to high winds and
waves on the lake and was in need of immediate assistance after becoming
submerged in the water without proper clothing or a personal flotation device.

The City of Fond du Lac Fire Department and Van Dyne Fire
and First Responders launched their inflatable boats from the Highway 45 wayside
to perform a water rescue. Through guidance from sheriff’s deputies and a Good Samaritan
in his own boat, the man was rescued from the water and returned to shore.
North Fond du Lac EMS crews treated the victim at the scene and transported him
to St. Agnes Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
