KFIZ Christmas Parade Canceled for 2020, Will Return in 2021.

Out of an abundance of caution, and following guidelines put in place by the Fond du Lac County Health Department, KFIZ and Mountain Dog Media have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Christmas Parade of Lights, which was scheduled for early December in downtown Fond du Lac.

”As part of Fond du Lac County’s Safe Restart Phase 1, the Health Department urges us to avoid large gatherings of people, and to emphasize social distancing of six feet,” Joe Moore, Fond du Lac City Manager said. ”Because of the parade’s popularity it draws large gatherings of people, and because the crowd consolidates on the sidewalks of Main Street adequate social distancing is impossible.”

Even though there is still well over a month until the scheduled parade date, Kim Mueller, Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer explains that there is still a potential for high levels of COVID-19 activity to continue into the final two months of the year.

“We don’t have that crystal ball to say what that future will be, but we know that it’s not going to change overnight,” Mueller said. “We can assume that activity will be circulating to the point where it is not safe to put people all together for a parade.”

Despite the parade’s cancellation this year, KFIZ is committed to resuming the parade in 2021. “This decision is obviously one we did not make lightly, and one we hoped we would not have to make,” Spencer Wagen, KFIZ Program Director said. “In the end, we want to make sure everyone in the Fond du Lac area stays safe and healthy this holiday season – and we hope everyone will join us in 2021 for the next Christmas parade!”

KFIZ is working on plans for some alternative ways to help celebrate the holidays in 2020 – both on the air and out in the community. Listeners should stay tuned to KFIZ and check KFIZ.com and our social media sites for more information in the coming weeks.
